15 physicians stepping into leadership roles in December

Here are 15 physicians moving into leadership roles Becker's has reported on since Dec. 15:

  1. James Callaghan, MD, has been promoted to senior vice president and chief operating officer of Mishawaka, Ind.-based Franciscan Alliance, which oversees 12 hospitals across Illinois and Indiana.
  2. Alexandra Clark, MD, has been named chief medical officer of Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, Calif.
  3. Dean Burke, MD, has resigned from his position as a Georgia state senator to step in as the chief medical officer for the state's department of community health. Burke represented the state's 11th district.
  4. Elizabeth, W.Va.-based Coplin Health Systems has selected Darrin Nichols, MD, as its next chief medical officer.
  5. The Texas Department of State Health Services selected Jennifer Shuford, MD, as its next commissioner.
  6. OSF Healthcare has appointed Glenn Milos, MD, as the new vice president and chief medical officer at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill., and OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, Ill.
  7. Chris DeRienzo, MD, was named senior vice president and chief physician executive of the American Hospital Association. 
  8. Prithipal Sethi, MD, has been named chief medical officer of urology for Promaxo, a medical imaging, robotics and artificial intelligence technology company.
  9. Shaheed Koury, MD, has been selected as chief clinical officer for Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health System.
  10. Danielle Mahaffey, MD, has been named chief medical officer of Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, N.C. Alamance Regional is a member of Cone Health.
  11.  Robin Zon, MD, has been named the next president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and will serve during the 2024-2025 term.
  12. Robert Glatter, MD, has joined the board of directors for CaringKind, a New York City-based nonprofit focusing on Alzheimer's disease and dementia caregiving. 
  13. The United States Football League has added Jim Ellis, MD, as its first chief medical officer. The announcement comes as the minor league football organization is heading into its second season.
  14. Stephen Smith, MD, was named chief medical officer for the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Planta.
  15. Stony Brook (N.Y.) Medicine has selected Todd Griffin, MD, as its next vice president for clinical services and vice dean for clinical affairs.
