5 health organizations receiving grants, donations

Here are five healthcare organizations receiving grants and donations Becker's has reported on since Feb. 6:

  1. New York City-based Mount Sinai's Arnhold Institute for Global Health was given $8 million to address global health issues from the Arnhold Foundation. The institute plans to use the funds to further education and research in global health issues and facilitate collaboration among the health system's physicians and scientists with global organizations in developing nations.
  2. Charlottesville, Va.-based UVA Health has partnered with emergency medical services agencies and community healthcare organizations to establish a program expanding healthcare services in seven counties in Central Virginia. The new program will be backed by a three-year, $1.5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
  3. Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health has established a $3 million endowment to go toward an endowed chair position in molecular oncology research. The W. Larry Chuck, MD Endowed Chair of Translational Molecular Oncology Research position will be used to fund a physician-scientist's work.
  4. Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health has received $1.5 million from the Golden LEAF Foundation to increase access to rural medicine in Pender County. The funding will be used to establish a rural physician training program at Novant Health Pender Medical Center in Burgaw and Black River Health Services in Atkinson.
  5. The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center in Lexington has received a $1.6 million gift from the Telford Foundation to establish a chair in gynecologic oncology. The donation from the Telford Foundation was matched with an $800,000 donation from UK's Research Challenge Trust Fund, bringing the total gift to $2.4 million.
