Apple's hand in healthcare: 8 updates in 4 months

As artificial intelligence continues to take off in the healthcare industry, major players, including Apple, are trying their hand at healthcare. Here are eight major updates from the tech giant in healthcare since March 27:  

1. Spine surgeons Maahir Haque, MD, and Kris Okumu, MD, discussed possible uses for Apple's Vision Pro augmented reality headset in the operating room. 

2. The new iPhone 15 could be equipped with artificial intelligence used to track users' moods, sleep and breathing patterns. 

3. Researchers from Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic plan to study whether Apple Watches can be used to detect early atrial fibrillation.

4. Apple AirPods will soon be equipped with temperature sensors to detect whether their wearers are sick.

5. Orthopedic surgeon Sean Moroze, MD, told Becker's about the upcoming Apple artificial intelligence he is most excited about. 

6. Apple launched mental health features that allow users to record daily thoughts and activities. The features will be available on iPhones and iPads through the Mindfulness app. 

7. New York City-based Mount Sinai researchers are using machine learning models and the Apple Watch to identify patients' degree of resilience and well-being. 

8. Salisbury, Md.-based TidalHealth merged its Epic MyChart patient portal with the Apple Health app to allow patients to view all of their health data in one place for no extra charge.
