Amazon's hand in healthcare: 10 moves in 4 weeks

Here are 10 healthcare moves made by Amazon that Becker's has reported on since July 14:

  1. Amazon's One Medical cut the ribbon on its first Connecticut location in Darien as the group partners with Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare.
  2. Amazon partnered with Maven Clinic to provide women's healthcare services for the company's employees in 50 countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.
  3. Amazon added leadership to its health industry team focused on genomics.
  4. Amazon continued its push into the healthcare sector with two major strategic initiatives launched in recent weeks.
  5. Amazon launched its virtual care platform, Amazon Clinic, across all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
  6. Amazon Web Services said it will make tweaks to its new clinical documentation tool, AWS HealthScribe, based on feedback to ensure it is working "at scale."
  7. Amazon pushed back against ONC proposals to regulate predictive artificial intelligence in healthcare.
  8. Tampa, Fla-based Motiff Cancer Center's new 10-story, 128-bed inpatient hospital was outfitted with digitized notes to nurses and Amazon's Alexa
  9. Amazon has been conducting a layoff spree as part of CEO Andy Jassy's plan to eliminate 18,000 jobs throughout the organization, some of which include employees spearheading its healthcare initiatives. 
  10. Amazon Pharmacy let go of about 80 staffers, including pharmacy technicians and team leaders, in July.
