Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System appointed Sowmya Viswanathan, MD, as vice president and chief medical officer of its group of St. Joseph hospitals in Tampa, Fla. 

Julia Joseph-Di Caprio, MD, has opened a nonprofit clinic in St. Paul, Minn., Leap Pediatric and Adolescent Care, to provide healthcare for families who face barriers to health and wellness, according to an Oct. 15 report from the Star Tribune. 

Juan Vasquez, MD, and Vidya Puthenpura, MD — both pediatric cancer researchers at Yale Cancer Center and Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn. — were awarded $300,000 and $200,000, respectively, for research.
