Medscape surveyed 1,376 residents between March 24 and May 25. 

Here’s the most important factors for medical residents choosing their first position:

  • Work schedule/call hours: 38 percent
  • Supportive organizational/practice environment: 20 percent
  • Starting salary/compensation: 19 percent
  • Educational/professional growth opportunities: 7 percent
  • Potential for career advancement: 6 percent
