Here are five stats on the physician workforce in 2023 that physicians should know:

  1. Changing times coupled with acceptance of more casual behavior was the leading factor driving physician misbehavior, according to 52 percent of physicians.
  2. Thirty-nine percent of physicians said they’ve seen other physicians misbehave in the workplace.
  3. Fifty-four percent of employed physicians are content with their work-life balance.
  4. Physician-owned practices have experienced a 40 percent drop in support staff per physician since 2019.
  5. Sixty-two percent of emergency medicine physicians reported experiencing burnout, the most of any specialty.
