5 physicians who received awards in December

Here are five physicians who have been recognized for leadership in their field this month:

  1. Christopher Flowers, MD, and Michael Caligiuri, MD, received the 2022 Mentor Award by the American Hematology Society. The award is given annually to two hematologists dedicated to developing their trainees and colleagues.
  2. LaPrincess Brewer, MD, was honored with the Robert A. Winn Career Development award for her work in diversifying clinical trials. Dr. Brewer will join the second cohort of 63 physicians across the country selected to receive training through a two-year program aiming to increase the diversity of patients in clinical trials. 
  3. Shazia Jamil, MD, became the first Asian American woman to receive the Outstanding Clinician Award from the American Thoracic Society. She is also just the fourth woman to receive the award since it launched in 2003.
  4. Lynn Fitzgibbons, MD, was named the 2022 Santa Barbara County physician of the year by the Central Coast Medical Association.
