The proposed transaction is subject to review by the Health Resources and Services Administration, additional regulatory approval and execution of a definitive agreement, a process expected to take months.

The proposed deal follows months of service reductions and layoffs at Baptist Health’s Fort Smith campus, including the April closure of its labor and delivery unit.
