How nurses cope with burnout

Most nurses deal with burnout by talking with family or friends, according to Medscape’s Dec. 9 “Nurse Career Satisfaction” report.

Medscape surveyed over 7,540 practicing nurses on the pros and cons of their jobs between May 3 and July 26.  

Here’s how nurses cope with burnout:

  • Talk with family or friends: 49 percent
  • Sleep: 42 percent
  • Listen to music: 42 percent
  • Eat junk food: 40 percent
  • Exercise: 35 percent
  • Spend time alone: 34 percent
  • Drink alcohol: 24 percent
  • Binge eat: 22 percent
