Dr. Chris Ghaemmaghami named chief physician executive of Jackson Health System

Chris Ghaemmaghami, MD, has been selected as executive vice president, chief physician executive and chief clinical officer of Miami-based Jackson Health System, according to a Dec. 13 release.

Dr. Ghaemmaghami most recently worked with the Virginia Department of Health, where he led the state's containment program and launched a COVID-19 therapeutics program. Under his leadership, the state vaccinated over 7 million residents and became the 10th most vaccinated state in the nation.

Prior to his work with the department of health, Dr. Ghaemmaghami was a faculty member at the Charlottesville-based University of Virginia Health System for more than two decades. While there, he served as the chief medical officer of UVA Health before becoming interim chief executive officer at UVA Medical Center.

This new role with Jackson Health System will mark Dr. Ghaemmaghami's return to South Florida, as he received both his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Miami.
