Biden to appoint Dr. Mandy Cohen to lead CDC

President Joe Biden will appoint Mandy Cohen, MD, former secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, as director of the CDC.

Dr. Cohen is an internal medicine physician and serves as executive vice president of Aledade and CEO of Aledade Care Solution, a private-sector firm focused on improving primary care. She served as COO and chief of staff for CMS under the Obama administration.

Her appointment follows the resignation of Rochelle Walensky, MD, on May 5; she will officially step down as CDC director June 30.
