9 Amazon moves from June that physicians should know

  1. Amazon delayed the rollout of its virtual care service after lawmakers expressed concerns about its privacy practices.
  2. Amazon Clinic, a virtual care offering from Amazon, can allegedly disclose some of its patients’ health information if a healthcare provider a patient used through Amazon Clinic leaves, or if the company needs to “facilitate services from other providers.”
  3. Amazon’s One Medical plans to open a new San Francisco clinic, expanding its partnership with San Francisco-based UCSF Health.
  4. Amazon debuted a $100 million generative artificial intelligence center to help customers harness the new technology.
  5. Sens. Peter Welch of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts wrote a letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy expressing concerns about how the company’s virtual care platform, Amazon Clinic, collects patient data.
  6. Peter Lee, MD, global medical director of Amazon, left the company to join occupational health provider Work Health Solutions. 
  7. One Medical opened its first Connecticut location under a partnership with Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare.
  8. Amazon Web Services partnered with health IT interoperability organization the Interoperability Institute to launch a virtual innovation center aimed at advancing healthcare interoperability.
  9. Amazon’s RxPass subscription medication service is now available in 44 states after expanding to Pennsylvania.
