There are more than 305,000 physicians in the U.S., excluding anesthesiologists, cardiologists, dermatologists, emergency medicine physicians, family medicine physicians, general internal medicine physicians, neurologists, obstetricians and gynecologists, and pathologists, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
According to BLS data posted in April, Florida and California have the most physicians as of May 2022. Here are the 10 states with the most physicians:
1. California: 20,840
2. Florida: 23,170
3. Texas: 21,990
4. Illinois: 18,850
5. New York: 14,700
6. North Carolina: 14,150
7. Ohio: 12,890
8. Michigan: 11,970
9. New Jersey: 10,440
10. Massachusetts: 9,810
