RWJBarnabas Health appoints Dr. Richard Lazzaro to regional leadership role

Richard Lazzaro, MD, has been tapped as chief of thoracic surgery for the New Jersey-based RWJBarnabas Health Southern Region.

Dr. Lazzaro has been with RWJBarnabas since 2022 and steps into his new role with more than two decades of experience in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, according to a Jan. 31 news release from the health system. He specializes in a variety of procedures, including lung cancer and tracheal surgery.

Dr. Lazzaro most recently served as director of thoracic robotic surgery and as an associate professor of cardiothoracic surgery at New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health. 

In his new role, Dr. Lazzaro will oversee thoracic surgery and cancer care at RWJBarnabas locations across Southern New Jersey.

These locations include Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, Community Medical Center in Toms River, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, and RWJUH locations in Hamilton and Somerville.

RWJBarnabas Health is based in West Orange, N.J.
