Dr. Bertagnolli, an oncologist, was nominated for the role in June by President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate on Nov. 7, according to a Nov. 9 news release from the NIH. She most recently served as director of the National Cancer Institute.
Dr. Bertagnolli replaces Lawrence Tabak, DDS, PhD, who has served as acting director since December 2021. Dr. Tabak will resume his role as the NIH principal deputy director.
