Dallas Mavericks surgeon named NBA physician of the year

Daniel Worrel, MD, has been named the 2023 NBA team physician of the year by the National Basketball Athletics Trainers Association.

Dr. Worrel has served as the team physician for the Dallas Mavericks for seven years and specializes in elbow, shoulder and sports medicine surgery, according to a June 12 news release from the Mavericks.

In addition to his role with the Mavericks, Dr. Worrel treats the student-athletes at Dallas-based Southern Methodist University and the NCAA’s annual Cotton Bowl Classic football game in Arlington, Texas. He has also provided coverage for the PGA Tour’s Byron Nelson Classic in McKinney, Texas, since 2006.
