What types of research are physician scientists conducting?

Clinical research is the most common type of research among both non-academic and academically affiliated physicians, according to a survey conducted by the Association of American Medical Colleges.
The survey pulled from data collected in 2022 from a national sample of 5,917 physicians in the United States, both within and outside of academic medicine.

Here are the most common types of research:
