The program will award scholarships to medical students of the college of medicine at both campuses in Tucson and Phoenix to encourage students to pursue primary care without worrying about medical school debt, according to a Feb. 27 report on the university’s website.

The scholarship requires each recipient to practice medicine between two to four years in a federally designated underserved community after graduation and residency.

It will be available to students completing their residency training in family medicine, general internal medicine, geriatric medicine, general pediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, and general surgery.

The scholarship is funded in part by $8 million from the Arizona state legislature.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 18–20 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
