The workplace measures physicians say could help burnout

Nearly half of physicians said increasing compensation was the No. 1 solution that could address burnout in the healthcare space, according to Medscape’s “Physician Burnout & Depression Report 2024” released Jan. 26.

The report included 9,226 respondents across more than 29 specialties.

Here are the solutions physicians said could be used to address burnout:

  1. Increase compensation: 48%
  2. Add support staff: 47%
  3. Make work schedules more flexible: 46%
  4. Increase physician control and autonomy: 41%
  5. More respect from administrators, employers, colleagues and staff: 35%
  6. Lighten patient loads: 33%
  7. Make counseling and check-ins available: 9%
  8. Offer different jobs: 4%
  9. Other: 9%
