Gratitude from patients is the most rewarding part of young physicians’ jobs, according to Medscape’s “Young Physician Compensation Report 2023.”

The report, which surveyed 10,011 participants across more than 29 specialties between October 2022 and January 2023, defined “young physicians” as those aged 40 and below.

Here are the answers young physicians gave when asked about the most rewarding parts of their jobs:

Gratitude from and relationships with patients: 27%

Being good at the job and finding answers or diagnoses: 26%

Making the world a better place and helping others: 20%

Making good money at an enjoyable job: 13%

Teaching: 6%

Pride in being a doctor: 4%

Other: 1%

Nothing: 4%
