The most, least punitive state medical boards

Michigan has the most punitive state medical board, according to a March 18 report from personal finance site WalletHub on the best and worst states for physicians.

The report compared the 50 states and Washington, D.C., based on opportunity and competition and medical environment. The two dimensions were then evaluated using 19 metrics, including physicians’ average annual wage, the number of hospitals per capita and physician burnout rate.

Here are the states with the most and least punitive state medical boards, as determined by the report:

  1. Michigan
  2. Ohio
  3. North Dakota
  4. Colorado
  5. Arizona

Least

  1. District of Columbia
  2. Nevada
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Georgia
  5. Indiana
