Sports medicine is the fastest growing physician specialty, according to data published by the Association of American Medical Colleges.

The data compared the number of physicians in each specialty between 2016 and 2021 to determine the percentage increase or decrease.

2. Pediatric anesthesiology — 37.7%
3. Interventional cardiology — 32.6%
4. Critical care medicine — 30.1%
5. Sports medicine, orthopedic surgery — 26%
6. Pain medicine and pain management — 25.4%
7. Pediatric critical care medicine — 25.1%
8. Vascular and interventional radiology — 25.1%
9. Neuroradiology — 23.1%
10. Clinical cardiac electrophysiology — 21.6%
11. Pediatric hematology/oncology — 18.8%
12. Vascular surgery — 15.2%
13. Internal medicine/pediatrics — 14.1%
14. Emergency medicine — 14%
15. Pediatric cardiology — 13.3%
