Here are 11 updates on unionization efforts and other labor organizing among clinicians and hospitals and health systems in June, as reported by Becker’s:
1. Hospital-based acute care physicians represented by Doctors Council SEIU at Newark, Del.-based ChristianaCare voted to ratify a new three-year labor contract June 30.
2. Members of SEIU Healthcare Minnesota & Iowa plan to strike July 6 outside Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Allina Health’s corporate headquarters in Minneapolis.
3. Approximately 4,500 registered nurses and clinicians at Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham plan to strike July 8, which would be the largest healthcare strike in the state’s history, according to the Massachusetts Nurses Association.
4. Members of National Nurses United are planning one-day strikes July 6 at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis and St. Joseph hospitals in Wichita, Kan., and Ascension St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.
5. Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital nurses represented by Einstein Nurses United voted June 24 to ratify a new three-year labor contract.
6. Skilled maintenance workers employed by MedSpace Services plan to strike July 2 at six Illinois hospitals owned by Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare.
7. Members of the Michigan Nurses Association are set to begin a three-day strike July 3 at MyMichigan Medical Center Alma, part of Midland-based MyMichigan Health.
8. Physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants at Phoenix-based Banner Health filed a petition for union representation with the Union of American Physicians and Dentists June 22.
9. Registered nurses at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital in Chicago voted June 17 to join the National Nurses Organizing Committee, an affiliate of National Nurses United.
10. Two hundred and fifty advanced practice providers across Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital are seeking to join the Union of American Physicians and Dentists.
11. Nearly 900 registered nurses at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wis., voted June 11 to unionize.
