Sentara to nearly double number of residencies

Norfolk, Va.,-based Sentara Health plans to roughly double the amount of residency and fellowship positions offered through the system, according to an Aug. 5 Williamsburg Yorktown Daily report.

The plan will include added positions at Sentara Norfolk (Va.) General Hospital and several other regional hospitals, including Sentara Williamsburg (Va.)  Regional Medical Center. Sentara said  that it will partner with newly formed Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences center at Old Dominion University in Norfolk to expand training opportunities and boost the healthcare workforce in the area. 

Currently, Sentara offers 240 residency positions at Sentara Norfolk General, and will up this number to 400. The health system pledged $350 million over the next 10 years to support Brock Virginia Health, which Sentara says will offer the largest portfolio of health sciences degrees in the state.
