Combined with federal funds, the two programs will split $123.7 million. One of the programs, which is new, will receive $30 million and the second will receive $97 million.
The other program, which has been operational for over 10 years, has increased residencies in the state from 3,500 to 7,000. With the additional funding, the proponents of the budget believe it will double its current number of residents.
Florida is expected to be short 17,924 physicians by 2035, according to an IHS Markit report.
