The Physician Workforce Act aims to address the shortage through a three-pronged approach. The first aims to update the process for already practicing physicians to practice in the state, which currently does not accept medical licenses from other states.
The second prong seeks to establish an apprenticeship program to fill workplace shortages in rural areas with medical professionals who did not match for a residency, and the final prong would focus on employing more international medical school graduates, the report said.
