The “Best & Worst States for Health Care” list for 2024, published July 29, assessed all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across 44 metrics comparing three major facets of healthcare: cost, accessibility and outcomes. One metric considered was physicians per capita.
Here are the five states with the highest number of physicians per capita:
- Washington, D.C.
- Massachusetts
- Rhode Island
- New York
- Connecticut
Here are the five states with the lowest number of physicians per capita, starting with the state with the fewest:
- Idaho
- Wyoming
- Montana
- Nevada
- Utah
