4 moves addressing the physician shortage

Here are four recent moves addressing the physician shortage that Becker's has reported on since Sept. 11:

  1. The University of Kentucky College of Medicine in Lexington received a $16 million federal grant to support efforts to ​​increase the number and diversity of primary care physicians across the state.
  2. A new coalition has formed to advocate for policy moves addressing the healthcare workforce shortage.
  3. The University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia received $16 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration to expand programing to address the shortage of physicians in rural Missouri.
  4. Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, MD, announced $30 million in loan repayments for healthcare workers, who must work full time or part time in Hawaii for two years to be eligible for the repayments, which will range from $12,500 to $50,000.
