Who is responsible for nurse abuse: Medscape survey

Almost half of nurses have experienced emotional abuse, and of those who faced abuse, half said a manager or administrator was responsible, according to Medscape’s Dec. 9 “Nurse Career Satisfaction” report.

Medscape surveyed over 7,540 practicing nurses on the pros and cons of their jobs between May 3 and July 26. 

Here’s who the nurses who experienced emotional abuse pointed to as the abusers:

  • Manager or administrator: 50 percent
  • Coworker: 43 percent
  • Patient: 37 percent
  • Physician: 27 percent
  • Visitor: 25 percent
  • Other: 11 percent
