The most challenging part of young physicians’ jobs

Dealing with difficult patients is the most challenging part of young physicians’ jobs, according to Medscape’s “Young Physician Compensation Report 2023.”

The report, published Sept. 26, includes responses from 10,011 physicians across more than 29 specialties. These results come from physicians younger than 40 years old. 

Here is what young physicians reported as the most challenging part of their job:

Dealing with difficult patients: 23 percent

Having to work long hours: 21 percent

Having so many rules and regulations: 16 percent

Dealing with Medicare and/or other insurers and getting fair reimbursement: 12 percent

Worrying about getting sued: 11 percent

Working with an EHR system: 8 percent

Danger/risk associated with treating COVID-19 patients: 1 percent

Other: 8 percent

Nothing: 1 percent
