1. Crystal Compton, DO, and nurse Kayla Lambert were convicted of conspiracy to illicitly prescribe controlled substances and related offenses. The two issued prescriptions for opioid painkillers, including oxycodone, methadone and hydrocodone, sometimes in combination with other controlled substances, such as alprazolam and clonazepam, without legitimate medical purpose.
2. Former Victorville, Calif.-based anesthesiologist Wendell Street, MD, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for illegally prescribing and distributing oxycodone to buyers. From November 2012 to November 2013, he prescribed 7,769 prescriptions for narcotics, including 437,000 doses of oxycodone.
3. Robert Soucy Jr., DO, of Columbia, N.H., was indicted on 12 counts of unlawful distribution of opioids and benzodiazepines. If convicted, Dr. Soucy faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on each count.
4. San Diego-based physician Tien Tan Vo, MD, pleaded guilty to using foreign unapproved and misbranded cosmetic drugs. Dr. Vo also pleaded guilty to receipt of misbranded drugs and being an accessory to an accomplice who smuggled the drugs from Mexico.
