Optum has the largest physician network in the U.S. and its physicians care for more than 20 million patients nationwide, including 1.3 million Medicare beneficiaries. The company has primary care locations, urgent care, specialists and a virtual care platform.
SCA Health is Optum’s ambulatory surgery center business and has more than 320 surgical facilities. SCA includes 9,200 physicians caring for 1.43 million patients annually. SCA also provides practice management services under Optum Specialty Practices and has bundled payments platform Global 1 in its network.
Value-based care is a big focus for Optum, which has more than 1 million patients served in value-based contracts. The company aims to add around 750,000 more patients to value-based contracts this year.
Optum acquired the physician group Kelsey-Seybold in Houston last year for $2 billion and Andrew Witty said the company had a “substantial number of transactions in process” during the fourth quarter earnings call Jan. 13, according to The Motley Fool.
