According to an Oct. 31 news release from the office of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, a Franklin County jury convicted Robert Florea, MD, and his practice, Buckeye Health and Research, each of one count of Medicaid fraud. Dr. Florea and his practice were initially indicted in December 2022.
Dr. Florea was found guilty of fraudulently claiming reimbursements for more than 5,100 pieces of equipment over a three-year period, but records indicated he only bought 460 of those items. This resulted in $1.5 million in fraudulent reimbursements from the state’s Medicaid program.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
