Maine physician arrested, charged with opioid distribution

Merideth Norris, DO, of Kennebunk, Maine, was arrested for allegedly illegal distribution of opioids and other substances, the U.S. Justice Department reported Oct. 26.

Dr. Norris, 52, allegedly prescribed opioids outside the course of professional practice and is now banned from prescribing any Schedule II-V controlled substances as a condition of her release. 

She is charged with 10 counts of illegal distribution of opioids and, if convicted, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
