Crystal Compton, DO, 43, and nurse Kayla Lambert, 36, conspired to unlawfully distribute controlled substances using prescriptions that were not written for a legitimate medical purpose, according to a Sept. 25 news release from the Justice Department.
Dr. Compton practiced in several medical clinics in the Pikeville area, where Ms. Lambert also worked as a nurse. The two issued prescriptions for opioid painkillers, including oxycodone, methadone and hydrocodone, sometimes in combination with other controlled substances, such as alprazolam and clonazepam.
According to evidence presented, Ms. Lambert also occasionally issued illegitimate controlled substance prescriptions by signing Dr. Compton’s name to prescriptions. The pair are scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 30.
