The hospital doubled the number of floors from four to eight at the Hollywood location, and added new treatment centers and specialized services, such as a dedicated cardiac treatment floor. The hospital is expanding from 180,000 square feet to almost 400,000 square feet.
About a third of the recent investment arose from philanthropic giving, including an ongoing effort from Florida Panthers NHL star, Sasha Barkov, who has donated $1,600 for each goal scored and $800 for every assist he makes. Country music legend Garth Brooks has also lent his name to facilities on the eight floor of the hospital.
The hospital manages 375,000 patient encounters annually and treats children from across the United States as well as the Caribbean, regardless of their ability to pay.
