Former professor donates $1B to cover New York med school students' tuition

Ruth Gottesman, EdD, donated $1 billion to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, instructing the New York City-based institution to cover tuition for all students going forward, The New York Times reported Feb. 26.

Dr. Gottesman was a professor at Einstein, formerly served as the school's director of psychoeducational services and currently serves as chair of the board, according to the publication. The donation is one of the largest to any educational institution in the U.S.

"I have the opportunity … to help [Einstein] in a transformative way — and I'm just so proud and so humbled — both — that I could do it," Dr. Gottesman told The Times.
