Cyberattacks continue to hit healthcare hard

Healthcare data breaches reached a record high in 2023, and the problem continues to worsen.

Here are five cybersecurity incidents Becker’s has reported on since Jan. 26: 

1. Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery in Colorado notified patients of a data breach in January.

2. Malvern, Pa.-based Azura Vascular Care, which operates 70 outpatient clinics and ASCs across 25 states, was impacted by a cybersecurity incident.

3. Colorado Ophthalmology Associates recently experienced a cyberattack that resulted in the encryption and loss of electronic medical record files.

4. Des Moines (Iowa) Orthopaedic Surgeons was hit with a data security incident that affected certain protected health information.

5. Wichita-based Kansas Joint and Spine Specialists reported a data breach to its patients that affected 83,869 people’s records.
