CMS program saves $1.8B in 2022

The Medicare Shared Savings Program saved Medicare $1.8 billion in 2022 compared to spending targets for the year.

It marks the sixth consecutive year the program has generated overall savings and the second-highest annual savings accrued since the program began over a decade ago, according to an Aug. 24 news release from CMS.

Since its inception, the program has become one of the largest value-based purchasing programs nationwide and as of January includes more than 573,000 participating clinicians who provide care to almost 11 million people with Medicare.
