Cigna ends prior authorization requirements for 25% of services

Cigna Healthcare removed prior authorization requirements from more than 600 medical codes — nearly 25 percent of services.

The company has eliminated prior authorization on more than 1,100 medical services since 2020, according to an Aug. 24 news release from Cigna. 

Cigna executives said the aim of the policy changes is to improve health outcomes, make care more affordable and remove administrative burdens on providers, according to the release.
