The initiative was announced during a press briefing at ACP’s annual Internal Medicine Meeting, according to an April 27 news release. The briefing included ACP President Ryan Mire, MD, and Board of Regents Chair Sue Bornstein, MD.
The initiative includes online resources for physicians, as well as a guide for speaking with patients about firearm injury and a video that provides tips and guidance for having those conversations.
“ACP has long advocated for a public health approach and common-sense measures that would help to curb this escalating crisis,” Dr. Mire said in the press briefing. “ACP continues to address firearm injury through public policy and advocacy efforts, publication of related research … events that examine the impact on clinicians and the public, and collaboration with others to enact change.”
