5 numbers worrying physicians

Here are five figures unnerving physicians:

17,800 to 48,000: The expected primary care physician shortage in the U.S. by 2034, according to a report from the Association of American Medical Colleges.

31.2 percent: The percentage of U.S. physicians in 2022 who reported having previously been sued, according to analysis from the American Medical Association. 

31 percent: The percentage of healthcare workers who are planning to leave their current role in the next two to three years, according to a March report from analytics firm Elsevier Health. 

4.48 percent: The amount by which the CMS conversion factor declined by in 2023. 

2.4 percent: The percentage by which average physician compensation declined in 2022, according to Doximity's 2023 "Physician Compensation Report."
