5 numbers physicians should keep an eye on

Here are five numbers physicians should monitor:

80 percent: The number of physician practice-owners who said the need to negotiate higher payment rates with insurance companies influenced their decision to sell their practice, according to a report from the American Medical Association.

43 percent: The amount that the annual physician turnover rate increased by between 2010 and 2018, according to data published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

26 percent: The percentage of physicians employed in private practice in 2022, according to the AMA report.

12 percent: The percentage of physicians who intend to set a retirement date and commit to full retirement, according to a report from Jackson Physician Search.

2.4 percent: The percentage by which average physician compensation declined in 2022, according to Doximity's 2023 "Physician Compensation Report."
