4 legal cases involving physicians

Here are four physicians involved in legal cases Becker’s has reported on since March 9:

  1. Francisco Ortiz and James Brooks Mersing, MD, have been charged in connection with a theft of more than $650,000 from their former employer, Wedgewood Physicians in Morgantown, W.Va.
  2. Illinois physician Mona Ghosh, MD, was indicted on 13 counts of healthcare fraud by a federal grand jury for allegedly defrauding Tricare and Medicaid — in addition to several private insurance companies — from February 2018 to April 2022.
  3. George Barrio, MD, agreed to pay $225,000 to settle allegations that he overprescribed controlled substances to patients.
  4. Former Pennsylvania physician John Keun Sang Lee, MD, was sentenced in federal court March 7 after being convicted for healthcare fraud.
