Desi Barroga, MD, and Deno Barroga, MD, operated a pain management clinic in Dallas where they are accused of prescribing patients high doses of hydrocodone, oxycodone and morphine, according to Nov. 20 news release from the Justice Department.
The pair allegedly would submit fraudulent claims to their patients’ insurance companies for dozens of corticosteroid injections, while the patients only received few or no injections, with the physicians allegedly mimicking an injection by placing a needle on the patient’s body without actually piercing the skin.
According to court documents, the pair allegedly billed healthcare benefit programs over $50 million and were paid an estimated $12 million for the fraudulent services.
