11 practice data breaches from the 1st half of the year

Here are 11 major practice data breaches from the first half of 2023: 

1. Fort Collins, Colo.-based management services organization Panorama Eyecare was hit with a data breach that impacted patients at four practices in Colorado and Wyoming. 

2. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare was hit with a cyberattack that exposed the information of 11 million patients. 

3. Philadelphia-based Vincera Institute faced a data breach that impacted 15,000 individuals across several clinics.

4. Greenfield, Mass.-based Pioneer Valley Ophthalmic Consultants was affected by a security incident at its third-party vendor, Alta Medical Management. 

5. Scranton, Pa.-based Great Valley Cardiology faced a breach that impacted patient data of 181,764 individuals. It has also been caught up in several lawsuits due to the breach. 

6. Patients from Cleveland Clinic were impacted when its vendor MedInform faced a data breach. 

7. Knoxville-based Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinic discovered a security breach that disrupted its operations between March 20 and March 24. 

8. Patients at Atlanta-based Peachtree Orthopedics faced a data breach and a subsequent extortion threat. 

9. An unknown number of patients were impacted by a data breach at Wausau, Wis.-based Bone & Joint Clinic. 

10. An unauthorized third party gained access to patient records at Texas Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in The Woodlands. 

11. Colonoscopy prep-focused management services company Captify Health was hit with a data breach that compromised the personal information of 244,300 patients.
