University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences adds 2 physician leaders

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock has named Michelle Krause, MD, chief executive officer for UAMS Medical Center and senior vice chancellor for UAMS Health and Dr. Ahmed Abuabdou as chief clinical officer for UAMS Medical Center.

Dr. Krause joined UAMS in 2002, serving in a variety of administrative roles including vice chair for clinical programs of the department of internal medicine and ambulatory medical director, according to a Jan. 17 news release from the university.

She was named director of the integrated medicine service line in 2015 before beginning her tenure as chief clinical officer in April. In her new role, Dr. Krause will oversee the 535-bed hospital, along with digital health services and clinics at eight campuses across Arkansas.

Dr. Abuabdou joined UAMS in 2012 and leads the UAMS physician adviser group and serves as vice president of operations for the American College of Physician Advisors. He also teaches as an associate professor at UAMS.

As chief clinical officer, Dr. Abuabdou will chair the clinical leadership council and facilitate medical staff interactions across service lines. Both Dr. Abuabdou and Dr. Krause have served in their roles in an interim capacity since September, the release said.
