The top health systems of 2023, per Fortune + Premier

Fortune and PINC AI have collaborated to identify the top health systems of the year, with the Mayo Clinic topping the list.

The annual list, which is in its 15th year, compares 361 health systems across the country using Medicare data with consideration for clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and patient experience, ranking each category out of five.

The ranking breaks the health systems into three groups  — small, medium and large — with there typically being five health systems in each group annually. However, due to a tie, there are 16 total health systems in 2023, with six health systems included in the “medium” group.
