Steward Health names new president, health equity leader

Dallas-based Steward Health appointed Marisela Marrero, MD, its inaugural senior vice president for health care equity and diversity, equity and inclusion. The system also named Paul Smith president of its flagship hospital in Boston.

Dr. Marrero most recently served as vice president of clinical operations at Steward’s Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Mass., according to a Feb. 2 news release from the health system.

Mr. Smith is rejoining Steward Health after serving as COO of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare’s Massachusetts division and its Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, according to the release. Prior to that, he held leadership positions at two of Steward Health’s affiliated hospitals.
